Pot Luck
While the price of gold has struggled lately, it’s not in the toilet. A large hoard of gold coins, however, were found in a pot while workmen dug a hole for a toilet in a small village in southern India. Most of the gold coins were from the 18th and 19th centuries.
According to news reports the workmen quickly realized they might have struck riches and hatched a plan to return in the evening to retreive the coins. One of the workmen took one of the coins the next day to a local pawn broker who told him the coin was not worth much and called the police. The police called the Indian Archaeological Survey.
This set off a mini gold rush as police rushed to the scene in search of the workmen and archaeological survey officials arrived at the scene to conduct further digging.
In all, more than 600 ancient gold coins were eventually discovered at the site.
