Sales of silver at the top four sovereign mints rose to over 100 million ounces in 2015. The Austrian, Canadian, Perth and United States Mints collectively sold 100,375,927 ounces of silver in 2015, up 17.7% from 85,273,467 ounces sold by the four mints in 2014.
According to the Silver Institute global silver mining production grew 2.1% in 2015 to 886.7 million ounces. The over 100 million ounces of silver that the top four sovereign mints used to produce their 2015 mintages represents approximately 11% of 2015 global silver mining production.
The total amount of silver, according to the Silver Institute, used to satisfy demand for coins from all sovereign mints and for privately minted silver bars and rounds was 292.3 million ounces or 33% of global silver mining production in 2015.
Ten years ago in 2005, the amount of silver required to mint that year’s production of silver coins, bars and rounds was approximately 5% of global silver mining supply.

Chinese and Mexican Mint Silver Sales in 2015
When the Mexican Mint one ounce Silver Libertad and estimated Chinese Silver Panda coin sales are added to the silver sales of the Austrian, Canadian, Perth and United States Mints, the total ounces of silver sold at the six top sovereign mints rises close to 110 million ounces or approximately 12.5% of 2015 global silver mining production.
