Thanks this is carefully worded Russian propaganda – they slipped in a quote from an actual Chinese person for the first time! So finally we have a “source” Wang says he “regards the possibility of converting futures into gold” Possibility is not the same, however, as launching a gold backed yuan China will launch an oil futures contract denominated in Yuan that has no gold backing or convertibility on the SGE.
No oil will be delivered under the contract. It is a hedging instrument One day, or never, gold may be involved. Russia and Iran may chose to deal in gold with China due to sanctions China wont offer up its gold to any oil producer and certainly not Venezueala who is bankrupt and needs dollars to pay creditors
