U.S. Mint 2017 American Gold Eagle Mintage Report.
The U.S. Mint sold 228,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle Coins in 2017 down 72% from 817,500 sold in 2016 and down 63.5% from 626,500 sold in 2015.
Sales of one ounce American Gold Eagles were the lowest since 2007.
Total ounces of gold attributable to all American Gold Eagle Coins including 1/10, 1/4/ 1/2 and one once coins were 302,500, down 69.3% from 985,000 ounces sold in 2016 and down 62.3% from 801,500 ounces sold in 2015.
December sales of One Ounce American Gold Eagles were 38,000, the second highest monthly total in 2017.
Silver to gold sales in December was 19.5:1.

Sales of one ounce American Gold Eagle coins in December 2017 of 38,000 were up 300% compared to November 2017 sales of 9,500.
In December 2017, the U.S. Mint sold 38,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins.

The U.S. Mint also sold 37,000 one half ounce, 64,000 quarter ounce and 395,000 one tenth ounce American Gold Eagle coins for a total of 74,000 ounces of American Gold Eagle coins sold in 2017.
In 2017, the U.S. Mint has sold 228,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins and a total of 724,500 American Gold Eagle coins of all denominations for a total of 302,500 ounces of gold sold in the form of American Gold Eagles.
Gold sales led silver sales at the height of the financial crisis of 2008-2009. Gold was also more popular during the run up to Y2K.
Gold is the metal where investors go to first when there are signs of financial uncertainty.
