Gold Price vs. World Currencies in 2017

Gold Rose 13.6% vs. the U.S Dollar in 2017.

Gold’s 2017 price rise follows a 9.1% rise in 2016.

2017 price rise was gold’s best year since 2010’s near 30% increase.

Gold price rise muted in other world currencies; down 1% vs the Euro.

Silver rose 7.1% vs. the U.S. Dollar in 2017 but fell vs. the U.K. Pound, the Euro, Canadian and Australian Dollars.

Silver’s 2017 increase of 7.1% followed 2016’s increase of 17.3%.

Gold vs. Major World Currencies in 2017.

U.S. Dollar weakness drove much of gold’s gains in 2017.

Gold rose against the U.S. dollar and most major currencies in 2017. The price of gold in 2017 fell 1% against the Euro. Gold’s price rise in U.S. Dollars follows a 9.1% gain in 2016, a year in which the dollar was strengthening vs. most major world currencies.

Here are some charts showing gold priced in world currencies and against the dollar in 2017:

Gold vs. the United States Dollar – up 13.6% in 2016 (up 9.1% in 2016) (down 10.5% in 2015 and down 1.8% in 2014); Silver up 7.1% in 2017 (up 17.3% in 2016).

Despite a series of Federal Reserve rate hikes and threats to raise interest rates further the U.S. dollar fell against most major world currencies in 2017 (especially the Euro) and gold in 2017.
