U.S. Mint 2018 American Gold Eagle Mintage Report.
The U.S. Mint sold 191,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle Coins in 2018 down from 228,000 sold in 2017 down from 817,500 sold in 2016 and down from 626,500 sold in 2015.
Sales of one ounce American Gold Eagles were the lowest since 2007.
Total ounces of gold attributable to all American Gold Eagle Coins including 1/10, 1/4/ 1/2 and one once coins were 245,500 down from 302,500 sold in 2017, down from 985,000 ounces sold in 2016 and down from 801,500 ounces sold in 2015.
December sales of One Ounce American Gold Eagles were 3,000, the second lowest monthly total in 2018.

Sales of one ounce American Gold Eagle coins in December 2018 of 3,000 were down compared to December 2018 sales of 38,000.
In December 2018, the U.S. Mint sold 3,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins.

The U.S. Mint also sold 32,000 one half ounce, 62,000 quarter ounce and 230,000 one tenth ounce American Gold Eagle coins for a total of 54,500 ounces of American Gold Eagle coins sold in 2017.
In 2018, the U.S. Mint sold 191,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins and a total of 515,000 American Gold Eagle coins of all denominations for a total of 245,500 ounces of gold sold in the form of American Gold Eagles.
Gold sales led silver sales at the height of the financial crisis of 2008-2009. Gold was also more popular during the run up to Y2K.
Gold is the metal where investors go to first when there are signs of financial uncertainty.
