Top Three Sovereign Mints, The U.S., Canadian and Perth Mint report collective first quarter 2016 gold sales up 54%
U.S. Mint gold sales rose 97% in the first quarter.
The U.S., Canadian and Perth Mints sold over 650,000 ounces of gold in the first quarter.
First Quarter 2016 Gold Sales
The Royal Canadian Mint released its first quarter 2016 report last week. The report showed that the Royal Canadian Mint first quarter 2016 gold sales of 212,600 ounces were up 18.6% year over year from the first quarter 2015 sales of 179,100 ounces.
The U.S. and Perth Mint report their sales monthly and contemporaneously at the end of each month.
The U.S. Mint reported selling 305,500 ounces of gold in the first quarter of 2016, including American Gold Eagle coins and American Gold Buffalo coins , up 97% from 155,000 ounces sold in the first quarter of 2015.
The Perth Mint reported selling 132,770 ounces of gold in the first quarter of 2016 up 48% from 89,415 ounces sold in the first quarter of 2015.
Collectively, the U.S. Canadian and Perth Mints sold 650,870 ounces of gold in the first quarter up 54% from the first quarter of 2015 when the three mints sold 423,515 ounces.
2015 Gold Sales
The increase in quarterly gold sales in the first quarter of 2016, follow a collective increase in gold sales in 2015 at the Perth, Canadian and United States Mints. Collectively, the top three mint’s gold sales of 2,432,132 ounces in 2015 were up 26% from 1,925,709 ounces sold in 2014.
Silver to Gold Sales Ratio at the U.S. Perth and Canadian Mints in the First Quarter of 2016
The U.S. Mint sold 14,842,500 ounces of silver and 305,500 ounces of gold. Silver to Gold Ratio 48.58 to 1
The Perth Mint sold 4,278,708 ounces of silver and 132,770 ounces of gold. Silver to Gold Ratio 32.23 to 1
The Canadian Mint sold 10,600,000 ounces of silver and 212,600 ounces of gold Silver to Gold Ratio 49.86 to 1
The U.S., Perth and Canadian Mints sold 29,721,208 ounces of silver and 650,870 ounces of gold. Silver to Gold Ratio 45.66 to 1

Canadian Mint Gold Sales
The Canadian Mint sold nearly 1 million ounces of gold again in 2015. The Canadian Mint has been averaging sales of about one million ounces of gold each year since 2008. Silver, however has become the preferred metal of Canadian Mint customers, prompting the Canadian Mint to remark in their 2015 annual report: “many investors have shifted to silver as the preferred investment over gold due to its affordability and the safety net provided by industrial demand.”
The Canadian Mint also sold a record 34.3 million ounces of silver in 2015 for a silver to gold sales ratio of 35.99 to 1.

Perth Mint Gold Sales
The Perth Mint historically has sold a greater proportion of gold than silver compared to the other three mints. In 2015, that was reversed as gold sales fell 11% to 457,132 ounces and silver sales rose 56%.
The Perth Mint sold 11,775,927 ounces of silver for a silver to gold sales ratio of 25.76 to 1.

U.S. Mint gold sales rose to over 1,022,000 ounces* in 2015, up 45% from sales of 702,000 in 2014.
