The U.S Mint sold 50,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle Coins in August up 67% from 30,000 sold in July 2016 and down 36% from 78,500 sold in August 2015.
Total ounces of gold attributable to all American Gold Eagle Coins including 1/10, 1/4/ 1/2 and one once coins were 58,500 up 51.9% from 38,500 ounces sold in July 2016 and down 42.3% from 101,500 ounces sold in August 2015.

U.S. Mint American Gold Eagle Sales
Sales of one ounce American Gold Eagle coins were up sharply in August 2016 compared to July 2016 sales.
In August 2016, the U.S. Mint sold 50,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle Coins up 40% from 30,000 sold in July 2016. Sales of one ounce American Gold Eagle coins in August were down 36% from last August’s sales of 78,500.
American Gold Eagle sales in August 2016 were the ninth best August sales in the coin’s thirty year history.
The U.S. Mint also sold 3,000 one half ounce, 4,000 quarter ounce and 60,000 one tenth ounce American Gold Eagle coins for a total of 58,500 ounces of American Gold Eagle coins sold in August. In July, the U.S Mint sold a total of 38,500 ounces of American Gold Eagle coins. In August 2015, the U.S. Mint sold 101,500 ounces of American Gold Eagle coins.
Year to date, the U.S. Mint has sold 486,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins and a total of 1,252,000 American Gold Eagle coins of all denominations for a total of 598,000 ounces of gold sold in the form of American Gold Eagles.
Sales of American Gold Eagle coins in 2016 are on pace for their best year since 2013.
