The U.S., Canadian and Perth Mints sold nearly 53 million ounces of silver in the first half of 2016.

Top Mints sold 40.36 ounces of silver to every ounce of gold sold in the first half of 2016- down from 45.71 to 1 in the first half of 2016.

First Half 2016 – A Record Half for Silver Sales

The Royal Canadian Mint released its second quarter 2016 report last week. The report showed that the Royal Canadian Mint second quarter 2016 silver sales of 8,400,000 ounces an increase of 19.3% year over year from second quarter 2015 sales of 6,800,000 ounces.

The Canadian Mint sold 19,000,000 ounces of silver in the first half of 2016 up 21% from 15,700,000 in the first half of 2015.

The U.S. and Perth Mint report their sales monthly and contemporaneously at the end of each month.

The U.S. Mint reported selling 26,250,500 one ounce American Silver Eagle coins in the first half of 2016, up 21% from 21,786,000 ounces sold in the first half of 2015.

The Perth Mint reported selling 7,636,156 ounces of silver in the first half 2016 up 172% from 2,810,974 ounces sold in the first half of 2015.

Collectively, the U.S. Canadian and Perth Mints sold 52,886,656 ounces of silver in the first half of 2016 up 31% from the first half of 2015 when the three mints sold 40,296,974 ounces.

The Perth Mint led the three top sovereign mints with a silver sales increase of 172% in the first half of 2016.

2015 – A Record Year For Silver Sales

The record silver sales in the first half of 2016, follow record silver sales in 2015 at each of the Perth, Canadian and United States Mints. Collectively, the top three mint’s silver sales of 93,075,927 ounces were up 15% in 2015 from 80,673,467 ounces sold in 2014.

Each of the Perth, Candian and Unites States Mints set silver sales records in 2015.

United States Mint Silver Sales

U.S. Mint silver sales in 2015 include only the 47,000,000 one ounce American Silver Ealge coins sold and do not include the 1,006,000 ounces of silver represented by sales of 212,000 America The Beautiful coins in 2015.

Sales of American Silver Eagle coins set a record for the third year in a row and apoeared to be headed for another record in 2016 as of June 30, 2016. Sales have slowed in July and August.
