Perth Mint Silver Sales Surge to Over 1.7 Million Ounces in March

Perth Mint Silver Sales Top One Million Ounces For the Seventh Month In A Row.

March Perth Mint silver sales of 1,756,238 ounces were up 175% year over year.

Silver Kangaroo bullion coin continues to drive massive silver sales.

February Perth Mint gold sales of 47,948 ounces were up 40% year over year.

The Perth Mint sold 1,756,238 ounces of silver in March 2016 up 175% from 638,537 ounces sold in March 2015. Silver sales in March 2016 were up 67.4% from February 2016 sales of 1,049,062 ounces.

Silver sales at the U.S. Mint were over four million ounces in March. In March 2016, The U.S. Mint sold 4,106,500 one ounce American Silver Eagles (ASEs) up 16.7% from 3,022,000 ASEs sold in March 2015.

In September 2015, the Perth Mint reacted to the silver shortages at the U.S. and Canadian Mints by introducing a new silver bullion coin that would be not be of limited mintage, but rather would be minted in such quantities to meet demand – the Silver Australian Kangaroo one ounce coin.

The new coin was an immediate hit. In seven months (September 2015- March 2016) the Perth Mint has sold 11,789,305 ounces of silver, up 170% from the period of September 2014 – March 2015 when 4,358,891 ounces of silver were sold.

The Perth Mint sold 47,948 ounces of gold in March 2016 up 40% year over year from 34,260 ounces sold in March 2015.

Gold sales at the Perth Mint in March 2016 were up 29.4% from February 2016 sales of 37,063 ounces.

Sales of American Gold Eagles at the U.S. Mint fell in March 2016 from March 2015. In March 2016, the U.S. Mint sold 29,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins down 16.7% from 35,000 sold in March 2015.

Silver to Gold Sales Ratios at the U.S. and Perth Mints

The U.S. and Perth Mints have been selling proportionally increasing amounts of silver to gold.

The U.S. Mint sold 4,106,500 one ounce American Silver Eagle coins and 29,000 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins in March 2016 for a silver to gold sales ratio of 141.59 to 1.

The Perth Mint sold 1,756,238 ounces of silver and 47,948 ounces of gold in March 2016 for a silver to gold sales ratio of 36.62 to 1.

In contrast, to the silver to gold sales ratio, the gold silver ratio measures how many ounces of silver it takes to buy one ounce of gold.

The gold silver ratio was well over 80 to 1 during March 2016.
