Sales of American Silver Eagles set a record today.
The 737,000 American Silver Eagles sold today put the total sales at 44,666,500 passing last year’s record of 44,006,000.

Due to the U.S. Mint’s inability to keep up with demand for American Silver Eagle coins, premiums doubled during the month of September, further curbing sales.

The near six year low in silver prices during 2015, and the higher gold silver ratio helped boost sales.
Record Summer Sales Propelled Silver Eagle Sales to Record
Monthly Sales of American Silver Eagles 2014 and 2015
Through the first five months of 2015 sales of American Silver Eagles were mediocre. Heading into the slower sales months, it appeared that sales in 2015 would be significantly lower than 2014. Then summer sales skyrocketed, the U.S. Mint was caught flatfooted and the U.S. Mint instituted a series of allocations on its Authorized Purchasers that remained in effect the rest of the year.
