Sales of Five Ounce America The Beautiful Coins Accelerate in 2016.
Each year since 2010, the U.S. Mint has released a series of five America the Beautiful five ounce silver coins. In 2016, the five coins to be released are the Shawnee National Forest (mintage sold out), Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (in release), Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park (to be released later in 2016) and Fort Sumter National Monument (to be released later in 2016).
The second coin in the 2016 American The Beautiful series the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park sold 64,000 in April and 11,000 in May. Combined with sales of 105,000 of the first coin in the 2016 ATB series, the Shawnee National Forest and sales of 33,000 of the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in June, total sales of five ounce ATB coins so far in 2016 are 213,000 which is the second most ATB coins ever sold in one year.
While the U.S. Mint authorized up to 150,000 Cumberland Gap National Historical Park five ounce coins to be minted, production was halted at 75,000. If all authorized Cumberland Gap coins had been minted, it would have become the best selling ATB coin yet. The Cumberland Gap coin is instead the fifth highest selling coin in the ATB series history.
