The U.S. Mint sold 8,500 one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins in March, up 21.4% from 7,000 sold in March 2016 and down 53.3% from 15,000 sold in February 2017.

The American Gold Buffalo coin is the U.S. Mint’s 24K gold coin introduced in 2006. The American Gold Eagle coin series has been minted in 22K gold since the U.S. Mint began producing them in 1986.

As the U.S. Mint’s ‘second’ gold coin, sales of American Gold Buffalo coins are not as robust as sales of American Gold Eagle coins. The U.S. Mint sold 220,0000 one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins in 2015 vs. 626,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins. (2.85 to 1)
In 2016, the U.S. Mint sold mint sold 219,000 one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins vs. 817,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins. (3.73 to 1)
In March 2017, the US Mint sold 8,500 American Gold Buffalo coins vs 16,000 American Gold Eagle coins (1.9 to 1)
In February 2017, the US Mint sold 15,000 American Gold Buffalo coins vs 21,000 American Gold Eagle coins (1.4 to 1)
In January 2017, the US Mint sold 19,000 American Gold Buffalo coins vs 86,500 American Gold Eagle coins (4.5 to 1)

The U.S. Mint sold the most American Gold Buffalo coins in their first year of mintage in 2006.
