U.S. Mint Releases 24K 1/10 ounce Gold Dime To Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Mercury Dime.
New Limited Edition Gold Coin Replicates All Features of the Mercury Dime.
On April 14, 2016, the U.S. Mint announced that a new gold coin, the one tenth ounce 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin, would be released on April 21. Within fifteen minutes of making the Gold Mercury Dime available on the U.S. Mint website, the product was listed as unavailable.
The 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial 24k gold coin is a replica of the silver Mercury Dimes that were minted for general circulation from 1916-1945.

The Gold Mercury Dime has a limited mintage of 125,000, so its not surprising that the U.S. Mint sold out of coins that it had available for sale on its website. Coin dealers, however, do have some of the Gold Mercury Dimes for sale in certified state.
Is the Mercury Dime 2016 Centennial Gold Coin the Most Expensive Mercury Dime Ever Minted?
The Mercury Dime 2016 Centennial Gold Coin is not the most expensive Mercury dime. That honor goes to the 1916-D silver Mercury Dime of which only 264,000 were minted. A 1916-D Mercury Dime in mint state might fetch $28,000! One in a very worn “good” state might cost about $900. This coin prevents many Mercury Dime collectors from completing their collections. A complete Mercury dime collection of all coins from 1916-1945 is relatively inexpensive and easy to assemble with some diligence, other that the rare 1916-D and the pesky 1921 (about $70 in good condition) and 1921-D (about $90 in good condition) dimes.
2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin Specifications
The one tenth ounce 24K Gold Mecury Dime is the same size as the one tenth ounce 22K American Gold Eagle coin. The current price listed on the U.S. Mint website shows a price of $205 (up from $199 when the coin was first made available on April 21). The current price of a 1/10 ounce American Gold Eagle coin is about $140 highlighting that the Gold Mercury Dime commands a premium over the standard American Gold Eagle bullion coin.
