1,204,500 ounces of gold sold at the U.S. Mint in 2016 was the most since 1,429,500 ounces were sold in 2010.

American Gold Buffalo vs. American Gold Eagle
The American Gold Buffalo coin is the U.S. Mint’s 24K gold coin introduced in 2006. The American Gold Eagle coin series has been minted in 22K gold since the U.S. Mint began producing them in 1986.

In 2016, the U.S. Mint has sold mint sold 219,500 one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins vs. 817,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins. (3.72 to 1)
