Second Quarter 2016 Canadian Mint Gold Sales Rise 53%

The Royal Canadian Mint Sold 251,400 Ounces of Gold in the Second Quarter of 2016.

Second quarter 2016 Canadian Mint gold sales rose 53% year over year in Q2 2016 from 163,800 ounces sold in the same quarter in 2015

First quarter 2016 Canadian Mint gold sales rose 18.7% year over year in Q1 2016 to 212,600 ounces from 179,100 ounces sold in the first quarter in 2015.

The Royal Canadian Mint released its second quarter 2016 report this week.

The report showed that Royal Canadian Mint second quarter 2016 gold sales increased 53% year over year from the second quarter of 2015. (251,400 ounces vs. 163,800 ounces)

Second quarter 2016 gold sales were up 18.3% from the quarterly gold sales at the Royal Canadian Mint of 212,600 ounces in the first quarter of 2016.

The Canadian Mint experienced a surge of gold sales in the third and fourth quarter of 2015. In the third quarter of 2015 the mint sold 323,400 ounces of gold. Coupled with the fourth quarter sales of 286,600 ounces, the Royal Canadian Mint sold 64% of their total 2015 gold sales in the third and fourth quarters (610,000 ounces of a total 953,000 ounces).

Sales of Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins and bars were up 34% in 2015 from 2014. Gold sales at 953,000 ounces, however, were under one million ounces for the second year in a row.

With 481,200 ounces sold in the first half of the year*, it appears the Royal Canadian Mint is on track to sell one million ounces of gold again in 2016.

The Canadian Mint has averaged sales of over one million ounces of gold a year since 2008.

The Royal Canadian Mint sold nearly 1 million ounces of gold again in 2015. The Canadian Mint has been averaging sales of about one million ounces of gold each year since 2008. Silver, however has become the preferred metal of Canadian Mint customers, prompting the Canadian Mint to remark in their 2015 annual report: “many investors have shifted to silver as the preferred investment over gold due to its affordability and the safety net provided by industrial demand.”

The Royal Canadian Mint also sold a record 34.3 million ounces of silver in 2015 for a silver to gold sales ratio of 35.99 to 1.

In the first quarter of 2016, The Royal Canadian Mint sold a record 10,600,000 ounces of silver for a silver to gold sales ratio of 49.86 to 1.
