The American Gold Buffalo coin is the U.S. Mint’s 24K gold coin introduced in 2006. The American Gold Eagle coin series has been minted in 22K gold since the U.S. Mint began producing them in 1986.

In 2016, the U.S. Mint sold mint sold 219,000 one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins vs. 817,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins. (3.73 to 1)

Through November 2017 the U.S. Mint sold 85,500 one ounce American Gold Buffalo coins vs. 190,500 one ounce American Gold Eagle coins. (2.23 to 1)
